FAQs

What is Rowley Wrench?

Rowley Wrench is a community-powered project offering free and low-cost auto repair workshops, Q&A sessions, and mutual aid support—especially for women, queer and trans folks, immigrants, and anyone who’s been left out of the traditional auto world. We’re here to make car care feel less scary and more empowering.

Who can attend your workshops?

Everyone is welcome! We center women, LGBTQ+ folks, BIPOC individuals, and other marginalized communities—but anyone who wants to learn in a respectful, inclusive space is invited. No prior experience needed.

Do you need to own a car to participate?

Nope. Some folks come just to learn or get more confident before buying a car. Others come with specific questions about their own vehicle. We try to make sure every session includes real-life examples.

How much do your workshops cost?

Our events are free! We believe car knowledge should be accessible to everyone, regardless of income. Everyone belongs here.

Are your workshops beginner-friendly?

Yes! We're all about starting from the very beginning: "what’s under the hood," "how to check your oil," "what does that weird noise mean?" No shame. No jargon. Just real skills, taught with care.

Can I bring my kid(s)?

Absolutely. We try to make our spaces family-friendly.

Do you offer actual repairs or just education?

Right now, we mostly focus on education—helping you understand your vehicle and feel more confident navigating repairs.

Is Rowley Wrench a real garage?

Not yet! We’re currently a mobile and workshop-based program—popping up in community centers, borrowed garages, parking lots, and more. Our dream is to one day open a full-service community garage space.

How can I support this work?

So many ways! You can:

  • Volunteer (especially if you’re a mechanic or bilingual)

  • Spread the word

  • Partner with us on a workshop or space
